Sustainable Fisheries: 35th Institute of Fisheres Management Annual Conference.
7th-9th September 2004, Cardiff University, Cardiff Hosted by Welsh Branch.
In September 2004, nearly 200 people with an interest in sustainability gathered for three days to share ideas, discuss their work, network or just absorb 28 presentations and 30 posters on the theme of Sustainable Fisheries. The 35th Institute of Fisheries Management Annual Conference was hosted for the third time in its history by Welsh Branch and held in Cardiff, the Capital city which is, through Welsh Assembly Government initiatives, driving forward the sustainability debate in the UK.

The opening session, Delivering Community Benefits Through Fisheries Partnerships, showcased some excellent Welsh examples and definitions of sustainability in fisheries. Further sessions went on to explore social, economic and environmental relationships in fisheries through the conference themes of Valuing Our Fisheries, Balancing Environmental Needs and Looking After The Natural Resource. During the three days the focus moved from Wales to Britain to Europe to North America and to discussing fishery issues on a global scale. We received help from a number of key sponsors who generously supported the 2004 IFM Annual Conference. We would like to record our gratitude to:
- Atkins
- Dow
- Corning
- the Fisheries Society of the British Isles
|
-
the Environment Agency
-
the Welsh Development Agency
-
the Welsh Assembly Government
-
and the Cardiff Harbour Authority |
The 2004 Annual Conference was an event of which we are all extremely proud in Welsh Branch.
