Following on from the very successful Bridgwater and London eel conferences the Institute of Fisheries Management, in partnership with the Environment Agency and Sustainable Eel Group are pleased to announce our next eel event, a two day Eel Regulations workshop.

We have put together a first class programme featuring speakers from across the British Isles and Europe. The expectation is that by the end of the workshop individuals and organisations will have a better understanding of the requirements and methods of meeting their obligations under the Eel Regulations.

We aim to bring together some of the leading practitioners for two days of presentations, networking and field trips.

Workshop sessions will cover:

·      Impacts and Improvements. Where are we now?

·      The European perspective

·      Screening and pumping stations

·      Commercial solutions

·      Implementation. Challenges and solutions

.      Best practice solutions

.      Research and monitoring

There will be a dedicated field trip on the third day to look at the monitoring work that is been done by the EA to record eel numbers at two pumping stations in the Anglian RBD. These sites are very different and have required different monitoring schemes. The results of the monitoring will allow the Internal Drainage Board to make a decision on the most effective solution to allow safe passage of eel. Presentations on site will come from both the EA and IDB staff.

There will also be a trade stands where delegates can see some of the latest equipment available to ease eel and fish passage at barriers. As part of this area we will also have a technology session at each lunch break when companies will be giving 10 minute presentations on thier latest technology.
