Burbot - Tom Worthington from the University of Southampton gave a presentation on his research at a Southern branch.  A study is being conducted by the University of Southampton to identify causes of extinction of the burbot (Lota lota) from the UK and examine the feasibility of a future reintroduction. This research will examine the species’ biological and ecological requirements, genetic lineage and critical life history traits as well as the public's perception of a possible reintroduction.

In order to examine the views of interested parties to a possible reintroduction, a questionnaire is available online. We would ask you take the time to fill this out as the opinions gathered from this survey are a vital component of the research. To access the questionnaire please go to www.burbot.soton.ac.uk. Alternatively a paper copy is available on request, please see website for contact details.
