Better fish health checks through accreditation updated July 2010
This Accreditation Scheme has been developed in response to discussions between the Environment Agency (EA) and the Institute of Fisheries Management (IFM). The IFM, as the professional and independent body for fisheries managers, has developed a system whereby the EA can use the IFM's experience in assessing technical and vocational competence to accredit the skills of those performing fish health checks for the purposes of stocking fish. The aim of the scheme is for the IFM to provide a transparent system of evaluating the experience and technical ability of individuals to perform fish examinations to meet the requirements of the Environment Agency under Section 30 of the Salmon & Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975 (SFFA) and similar requirements under future legislation.
Click here for the current register. NB. the registration of any individual does not imply a recommendation or indeed their suitability to undertake any specific task.
The scheme has been developed in consultation with fish health professionals and the Environment Agency. It will require participants' "professional" membership of the IFM and involvement in its Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme.
The accreditation scheme is designed to provide a transparent assessment scheme for people who do fish health checks, who are currently recognised by the EA and any that may wish to gain entry onto the register. The register will be maintained by the IFM.
